Lao PDR marks Anti-Human Trafficking Day 2010

Vientiane, 18 December 2010 – This year’s international Anti- Human Trafficking Day Events took place at the Vientiane Polytechnic School.

Hundreds thronged the school grounds to attend the celebration and to take part in the events dedicated to raise awareness among the youth and policy makers of Laos on the dangers and risks linked to human trafficking. The annual commemoration was marked by a variety of events, involving government officials, humanitarian aid workers, celebrities and respected Lao community members.

The Lao Youth Union in collaboration with UN agencies and NGOs such as UNIAP, ILO, IOM, UNV, FAO, World Vision Lao, NCA, MTV Exit Village Focus International, AFESIP, Plan International, Friends International, Save the Children, Beer Lao and Spirit of Soccer ensured the eventful afternoon with activities based around the prevention of human trafficking and intervention measures undertaken by the Lao Government and international organizations to fight this organized crime. 

Spectators enjoyed a friendly football match between government officials and NGO partners and an evening concert showcasing the Temple Guys, Lao Bang Fai and Aluna and many more. The information booths set up by the UN and its’ partner agencies witnessed many school children casting their curiosity. Thousands who attended the evening concert benefitted from the well organised and informative stage performances on safe migration. The Anti- Human Trafficking Day celebrations concluded with the MTV Exit - sponsored projection of the animation movie - ‘Intersection’, an awareness clip stressing the dangers of human trafficking and the need for strong support against it.
